A Thrilling Guts Battle at Horizon Line
Have you ever imagined if
suddenly you were trapped in a small private plane without a pilot, what would
you do? Would you be able to fly the plane with only some experience from
informal airplane flying lessons? Not only that, the plane's position was in
the middle of a vast ocean and the GPS didn't work. Must be very dizzy right?
This is an interesting
premise that director Mikael Marcimain (Call Girl) is trying to bring to the
big screen. This film entitled Horizon Line describes how tense the situation
is, and many other things that make the main characters increasingly trapped in
this vortex of horror. Like what?
FLY OR DIE
Sara (Allison Williams, A
Series of Unfortunate Events) and Jackson (Alexander Dreymon, The Last Kingdom)
are at the end of the romance they have been building for a year. Both of them
know that this love story is only temporary, as Sara spends her Sabbatical
holiday on a tropical island full of dreams. The two separated and there was no
hope of ever meeting again.
Unfortunately fate said
otherwise. Exactly one year after the two separated, Sara returns to the island
to celebrate the wedding of her best friend Pascale (Pearl Mackie, Doctor Who).
Sara and Jackson's reunion feels awkward and uncomfortable, especially when the
two of them have to spend 90 minutes traveling from the main island to another
island where Pascale's wedding will be held.
On their way aboard a small
private plane flown by an aging pilot named Freddy Wyman (Keith David, Star
Girl), a pair of lovers must put their feelings and insecurities aside. First,
because Freddy suddenly died of a heart attack and now one of them has to fly a
plane across the vast ocean and a huge storm that suddenly appears in front of
their eyes. Did they succeed?
LOVE IN SURVIVAL MODE
The survival genre is always
interesting to bring to the big screen, starting from films set in war or
natural disasters, it is sure to captivate the audience from the start. It's a
shame that the Horizon Line isn't thrilling enough to offer a life bet that
should feel terrible. However, Allison Williams' appearance as Sara managed to
make this film feel more believable.
Dreymon's appearance as
Jackson, Sara's lover, is also quite good. The audience is led to believe that
Jackson doesn't only like Sara as a girlfriend, but also loves her with all his
heart. His eyes always felt warm, even when they fought it was clear that
Jackson really wanted Sara.
Director Marcimain succeeds
in presenting beautiful shots of tropical islands and wide seas, which are not
only beautiful but also turn out to be deadly. If you like survival genre films,
