Decibel Review: Star-studded Thriller
Decibel (데시벨)
is probably one of the most awaited Korean films. Not only studded with famous
stars such as Kim Rae-Won (L.U.C.A.: The Beginning), Lee Jong-Suk (Big Mouth),
Cha Eun-Woo (True Beauty), Jung Sang-Hoon (Again My Life), Park Byung-Eun (
Seobok), Lee Sang-Hee (Juvenile Justice), and Jo Dal-Hwan (All Of Us Are Dead),
this 1 hour 50 minute film also offers a thrilling action thriller.
Scheduled to be released on
November 30 in Indonesia, the writer had the opportunity to watch this film
sooner and was stunned by the quality of the film by director Hwang In-Ho
(Monster). Like what?
EVERY SOUND COUNTS
The story revolves when a former naval commander Kang Do-Young (Kim Rae-Won) gets a mysterious call from an unknown person. The caller stated that he had planted deadly bombs in two different locations. One in the residence of a naval officer, the other in the middle of a playground full of children. Kang Do-Young is asked to decide, which bomb to detonate?
Of course this is not an
easy choice. Kang Do-Young is frustrated by the situation, and it turns out
that although one of the bombs finally explodes, the terror is not over. The
commander continues to be led to difficult decisions, when the mysterious
caller informs him that he has activated two more bombs in a much more
populated location. One in the football stadium full of spectators, and the
other in the very crowded public swimming pool. Did Kang Do-Young manage to
save them?
EXCELLENT ACTING
The big names involved in
this film must be familiar to the audience and Korean drama lovers in
Indonesia. Especially if you are a big fan of legendary actors Kim Rae-Won and
Lee Jong-Suk. Their acting battles often steal the attention of the audience.
But what is no less interesting is the totality of Cha Eun-Woo who is not only
sharp in terms of visuals, but also the emotional appearance that he is trying
to convey. True Beauty fans must be happy with Eun-Woo's presence in this film.
With a budget of US$ 9
million, Decibel is not worried about BEP or profit, because in its opening
week, the film with a score of 9.4/10 on IMDb managed to beat Black Panther:
Wakanda Forever at the top of the Korean box office. You can imagine how
successful this film will be after showing in other countries, such as
Indonesia, which has many people and the majority of drakor fans. If you can't
wait to watch Decibel, the film is a sneak preview in theaters starting today,
Saturday 26 November 2022 in leading theaters.
